Star Party: Winter Astronomy
February 22, 2020 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pmFree
Free public star party: Come observe the winter Milky Way and its fine nebulae and star clusters along with several of the most recognizable constellations. Eight first magnitude stars, including the brightest star in the sky, Sirius, will light up the night. The deep sky highlights are the Great Orion Nebula, the colorful open cluster M35 in Gemini and the ghostly Crab Nebula in Taurus. The Orion Nebula (M42) can be seen clearly with the naked eye. And with a telescope we can see the 4 stars within the nebula known as the Trapezium. Sunset at 5:34.
Auriga (the Charioteer), Cassiopeia (the Queen), Perseus (the Hero), Taurus (the Bull), Orion (the Hunter), Gemini (the Twins), and Canis Major (the Great Dog).
