The Winter Milky Way
Free public star party: The winter Milky Way will be visible and celestial highlights include the Andromeda Galaxy, the Pleiades star cluster, and Great Orion Nebula. Eight first magnitude stars – including brilliant Sirius, deep orange Betelgeuse, and golden yellow Capella – light up the winter sky. Venus is the bright star in the west. Ursa Major is getting higher and we can see the pointer stars, Dubhe and Mirak that point to Polaris. Within this constellation is M81, a beautiful spiral galaxy 12 million light years away. Sunset at 5:07
Prominent constellations: Auriga (the Charioteer), Cassiopeia (the Queen), Perseus (the Hero), Taurus (the Bull), Orion (the Hunter), and Gemini (the Twins).
