Star Party: Moon and Venus

February 1, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

First Quarter Moon and Venus
Free public star party: The first quarter Moon and Venus will be the highlights of the evening. The Moon is best observed at this phase as many of the dramatic craters, valleys, and mountains come to life on the shadowy lunar terminator. Venus climbs higher in the sky as it passes background stars. Mercury is low on the horizon one hour after sunset, 26 degrees below Venus. A triple star system can be seen in the constellation Monoceros, the Unicorn. This is a modern constellation found within the Winter Triangle marked by brilliant neighbors in Orion, Canis Major and Canis Minor. The Milky Way passes through the center of this constellation. Sunset at 5:14.
Prominent constellations: Auriga (the Charioteer), Cassiopeia (the Queen), Perseus (the Hero), Taurus (the Bull), Orion (the Hunter), and Gemini (the Twins).
